Engines and Directories
Introduction
This article makes part of a series of 20 articles. The subject of this series is the creation and promotion of a
website as a cost-effective method to establish a profitable home based business
on the Internet.
In my previous article, “Achieving financial
freedom with Network Marketing on The Internet – Part 9 - Create the pages
that will contain the links”, I have guided you in creating the pages in your
website that will contain the reciprocal links.
In this article I will help you how to choose the
right web hosting company.
In my previous article, “Achieving financial
freedom with Network Marketing on The Internet – Part 10 – Choose a web
hosting company”, I have indicated to you important issues to take in
consideration when choosing a company to host your webpages.
In this article I will show you what to do and what
to avoid while submitting your website to Search Engines and Directories.

Submit your website to Search Engines and
Directories
Generally, the major Search Engines send their
spiders once a month to crawl the web and gather the URLs and the content of as
much web pages as they can. Then they process the importance and the relevance
of each web page and build their databases. From these databases come the
listings of the web pages, when someone makes a search.
Even though every Search Engine provides a way to submit your web pages (only
the home page or a few more) for inclusion in their databases, it is better that
your web pages are found from the links in other websites. This way, they
examine your website, or send their spider to “fetch” your pages. If these
links come from important websites of great relevance with the theme of your web
pages, then they do include your website in their databases. But this takes
time, usually 8 weeks, since Search Engines (the stuff behind them) do have a
lot of new web pages requests for indexing to elaborate daily.
So, I suggest that you wait, regarding the major
Search Engines (Google, MSN, AOL, Alltheweb, Altavista, Inktomi – Inktomi is
not a Search Engine by itself. It is a database of webpages that gives its
results to other search engines and directories, like Hotbot).
On the contrary I suggest that you search and find
smaller Search Engines or local Search Engines and Directories, where you have
to submit your web pages, since they crawl the Internet rarely. This way you
will get better and quicker results. Do not pay to be included in the Directory
of Yahoo (it costs $300 yearly). There are programs that can accelerate this
procedure of submitting to smaller Search Engines and directories. They are
free, shareware or cost not much money. Use them. They include lists of smaller
Search Engines and directories you will need much-much time to find about.
I include two of them, Addace and SimpleSubmit, in my website at
www.netincome.gr/download.htm.
The versions included are not the current ones, but they are the free ones. The
company that created Addace (http://www.addace.com)
has released a newer version, which costs less than $50. It also offers a free
trial offer of this newer version for 30 days. I suggest you do not download
this trial version. Use the current one. It includes many search engines, major,
minor and regional ones. Some of them are obsolete now, but most of them are
functioning and you can submit your website to them, as I did. ADCSoft, the
company that has released “Simple Submit”, does not support it any more (http://www.adcsoft.com/simplesubmit.html).
But, this program will give you the URL’s of the 30 major search engines, so
that you can submit your website to them easily in one day. Once you are
familiar of their use, you can search for similar programs or services on the
Internet, freeware or shareware.
Download them and see what they have to offer and how they function.

Engines need time to index your website
At this point the first part of your work is
completed.
You have a website, comprised of the necessary web pages to function as an
effective marketing tool.
You have the process to follow in order to make it popular for those in search
of the product you promote.
It is properly designed to convert your visitors to customers and co-workers.
