Web Promotion Tips
50% of the top ten search engines factor the
links to your site into their relevancy algorithms when they rank your web
site. By increasing the number of links to your web site you can
dramatically improve your search engine result positioning. This is what
UBE is all about, increasing the number of links to your site. You get
better search engine results and more people see ads to your site, both increase
traffic.
Title
On links pages your title is key. You have 85 characters with which to
draw traffic to your web site. Feel free to change your title all that we
ask is that you reference your membership number when you correspond with us.
Meta tags There are two Meta tags that you need to be concerned with:
Keywords Meta tag - This Meta tag was designed to tell the Search Engines
what the Web Site was about. Keywords are what that people put in a Search
Engine to find Web Sites about that topic. A Web Site designer will put the
words that they think people will use in searched to make the Web Site come up.
This worked great for some time, but now the Search Engines that do look for the
Meta tags compare what is in the keywords Meta tag with the content of the Web
Site. So if the keyword is not in the content of the Web Page then the Search
Engine will generally omit that keyword.
Description Meta tag - This Meta tag was designed for the Search Engines
to use on the search results to tell the people what the Web Page was about. If
the Web Site designer did not use a Description Meta tag, the Search Engine
would use the first words on the page as the description used on the search
results.
A word of caution here, Meta tags are not near as important now as they used to
be. Meta tags are not the secret to Search Engine placement now. They used to be
vital, but now, only 2 of the Big Search Engines use Meta tags to index Web
Sites. The Search Engines have learned that people will use false keywords
and descriptions for their Web Sites. Most of the Search Engines will use the
Description Meta tag on the search results even though they don't use them to
index the page.
There are seven big Search Engines and one big directory:
Alta Vista Excite
WebCrawler Magellan Infoseek
