Home Based Business - Articles Starting
costs of owning your own Internet home business
First of all when you work at home, you probably won't have a huge
overhead. Depending on the business, you'll probably have to pay for
advertising, some marketing material (like business cards), possibly a
membership fee or products to buy for resale, etc. Some companies provide
all of this for you but at a cost. All of your business related expenses
are tax deductible at the end of the year. Check with your accountant, or
the person who does your taxes, or even your government (although they may not
tell you about ALL deductible expenses!!). If you think you can have a successful Internet home based business for free,
you are DREAMING. Go have a look at all the free classifieds sites, they
are JAMMED with TONS of ads for the SAME businesses! You get a headache
just looking at them, never mind reading some of those ads. I've often
wondered if people actually go there actively seeking business opportunities or
if it's only people who post the ads who go there. So many people got
burned in so many programs that I'm not so sure that serious people look in free
classifieds to find a true business opportunity. I know I wouldn't.
When you advertise there it means that you have no money to pay for an ad, which
means that you probably don't make as much money as you claim you do in your ad
in the first place. So by placing free ads for something that will help
people make more money you are defeating the purpose. Do your research,
find good advertising sites with a lot of traffic that offer relevant
information or serious business ads to give yours credibility. Don't get
lost in the mumbo jumbo of free classifieds. Pay for it, you won't regret
it. Target your ads to attract the people you want in your business or
people who have the money or interest to buy your product. Marketing and advertising is what jumpstarts your business and keeps it
growing for as long as you own it. Don't be cheap in these areas.
Especially not in the beginning. If you have offline promo material, make
it look professional and appropriate for the business you are promoting.
Make sure to include your URL (web site address) on all printed materials if you
have one. If you have a web site, get your own domain name ( .com or
.net), don't publish it on a free site (like this one). People give MUCH
MORE credibility to a .com name than they do to a free site. If the
company gives you a free web site, it will probably include a bunch of numbers
at the end representing your ID number. What many people do when they see
that, they delete those numbers and just paste the address of the company in
their browser and you lose the referral or the sale. Very unethical if you
ask me, but what do you know, not everyone is honest! They think that by
doing that they rob you of their referral, which they do, but what they actually
do is give the people at the top even more money. All these
"orphans" get placed under (or the sale goes to) someone else and that
someone else is almost always someone at the top of the organization, not one
who's near or at the bottom. So they just make the rich richer and the
poor poorer. Little do they know! Make your own web site and get
your own domain name for your business. Most companies also offer help and
encourage you to do that. Take advantage of it. You will have to pay
to register your domain name and hosting fees as well (tax deductible).
But it will all be well worth it in the long run.
