A lot of folks are afraid to write an article for publication. With the viral nature of articles on the internet these days you can't afford not to take a stab at one of the most effective marketing tools on the web. By knowing a few basic facts about the reasons for writing, it might make that first step a little bit easier.
Basically there three reasons for writing any article. They are used to inform, persuade, or to entertain.
Information
The first reason for writing is to provide information. It is extremely important that I provide precise information to employees and associates. Telling them about intentions, schedule changes, and policy matters, allows them to make accurate decisions. Telling clients and customers about your new web site will do wonders for your traffic and your sales figures.
Sometimes, a particular task or procedure is very complicated. In these instances, nothing beats a written instruction for ensuring that a job gets done properly. For example, I recently purchased a
computer program from a vendor online.
Supposedly all of the bells and whistles would make my life easy. Instead my life became a nightmare while trying to figure out how to use the software. If the vendor had done a better job explaining things in the instructions, everything would have been A-OK. It was like many of the computer products on the market today. Help was no help!
Persuasion
The second reason for writing is to persuade. The internet is a giant market place with thousands of merchants competing for your money. Many of them offer the same merchandise at the same price. What makes us decide to buy from vendor A instead of vendor B? Persuasion!
Corey Rudl didn't build a better mouse trap, but he wrote a persuasive sales letter, and the world beat a path to his door! Learn to write an effective sales letter, and folks will beat a path to your door too!
Entertainment
Sometimes you just want to get a laugh out of someone, so you write something funny. However, don't overlook the power of humor in your informative or persuasive writings. Nothing is more boring to read than a technical journal or a letter from an attorney's office. If your reader is bored, they will either not pay attention to what you have written, or wont even read it.
Humor has a tendency to put a human face on the writer and sparks the imagination in the reader. By blending a bit of entertainment into your writing, you will establish trust with your readers. Later, when you send out a sales letter to them, your chance of making a sale will increase.
So now you know the reasons for writing an article. You want to sell things on line like a million other folks. In order to do that, you need to INFORM people about how to find you. You need to PERSUADE them to buy from you. And you want to throw a bit of ENTERTAINMENT into the mix to keep them interested.
Writing an article can have a dramatic effect on your bottom line. It is a great way to get the word out about your business, and its free!
